Yes, I would agree to start tweaking the horizontal hold. What you are
seeing is called Horizontal 'tearing' and I believe it is from the
horizontal hold trigger point being adjusted into a non stable part of
the pulse? Some monitors have a fix for problems like this but I don't'
think the sanyo is one of them. It is definitely not fun trying to tweak
some of the controls in Nintendo games, tights spaces and
lots-o-hv-wires.

Have you tried adjusting horizontal frequency? Due to location of that
pot you'll probably either want to use a long plastic tuning tool OR
adjust it a little at a time with the power off.
