  This probably won't help, but I had a Klax once that wouldn't come up and the problem was one of the control panel buttons was physically stuck in the "on" position. You wouldn't think something like that would matter but it can.

  Some games do weird stuff if the buttons are stuck.

  On that same note, I once had a Cinematronics' _World Series_ game that put garbage on the screen during power-up. The problem turned out to be a quarter had stuck in the coin mechanism, keeping the coin switch on at all times. The schematics said that the coin switch went directly to the Z-80 microprocessor's NMI (Non-Maskable Interrupt) pin... so with the switch hung up, it essentially shut off the processor! (The hardware was designed so the switch would be briefly turned on and off as the coin would normally pass through it, sending out a pulse.)
