Swapping a WG for a Motorola in Space Invaders?

Nice to see some activity on the rasterlist.

I have a Space Invaders where the Motorola monitor went out on me. Being the brute force fix-it guy I am, instead of troubleshooting, I just replaced the monitor with a WG b/w monitor from a Deluxe Space Invaders I had lying around.

It worked for about 5-10 minutes and then the WG went out on me too. I told this situation to another collector friend that mentioned something about that while those two monitors are plug compatible with each other and with the game, there is some adjustment, some resistor or capacitor you need to replace, or you will have a problem and blow the monitor.

I've never heard of this before, but since it happened to me, I can't argue against it either. Does anyone know anything about this? Can anyone please fill me in, or provide a link that gives the information on what needs to be swapped to make a WG/Motorola b/w monitor swap work?

Bonus question: If indeed there is something needed to be done before swapping these monitors, and I didn't do it, what component did I just knock out?

  Thanks much,
