Bad tube, the problem you're describing is called 'double peaking' and is
caused by reduced cathode emission.

You might try rejuvenating the tube to get some more life out of it.

Subject: RASTER: Oddness with U5000 color intensity

I have a 25" U5000 which is giving me some oddness.

When I turn it on with a pattern generator (color bars) the picture comes up
gets brighter and brighter as it warms up until it looks perfect and then
suddenly the colors all drop by about 50 percent intensity.

Using the screen control I can get the color up to what I would normally
consider about 75% intensity before it starts to drop off again.

I get exact same response with 3 different neck boards. I have just done a
cap kit (had the problem before the cap kit).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

David
