I use an "older" JDR MOD EMUP hooked up to a 386 DX40. It does all the
things John mentioned TTL/CMOS testing, RAMs, some Micro Controllers,
Bipolar PROMs, PALs, GALs etc.. It does not do the ancient 2708 tri voltage
stuff.

There is/was some sortta speed issue with computers & controllers. They
don't recommend hooking the EMUP into machines faster than 50 Mhz (it has a
ISA card). The newer series connects to either serial or parallel port but
most of these units are $800+.

Think about how you intend to use this device. I use mine to sort thru
loose RAM chips and to verify ROM chips but I don't use it much as a
troubleshooting tool because... 99% of the RAMs you suspect to be the
problem are soldered in and ROM chip may checksum fine but may breakdown
under actual operation.

I also agree with John on the Xeltek, I had a super pro & ended up returning
it after it blew up burning 2532's.
