Flameproof? At least with a flameproof resistor it will go open instead of
burning up the board if overloaded.

Means you'll pay a bit more for a part that will heat less and last longer. ESR
is Effective Series Resistance. A capacitor has, yes, capacitance, but also a
resistance in series with the capacitance. In a high ripple current application
(switching power supplies, deflection circuits, etc.) you will drop power into
this series resistance and turn it to heat. Heat kills parts. And the
resistance will make the ripple current show up as an extra voltage across the
capacitor which can cause problems in certain circuits.

To make an overly long story somewhat shorter the moral is to use low ESR
capacitors if your budget allows.
