AT THOSE PRICES HE CAN SHOVE THEM!

what's the big deal anyway?

i can get high-voltage diodes easy, just ask in any (old) tv repair shop.
these places have stuff stashed away that is older than the staff!!!!

another idea to try - for the adventurous,
cutting the HV diode-pack out of dead Line-output transformers!
(another use for the hobby-drill and cutting disks !!!)

remember - as long as there are CRT's and lasers (and x-ray/microwave systems)
there will always be sources of high-voltage rectifiers.
