Yeah, you have to tie certain pins on the processor together. Instructions
on how to build a NOP plug can be found here.

If you a have a signature analyzer, then the rest is just hooking up the
STOP/START/CLOCK the right way and comparing documented signatures. With
Atari vector games this is only helpful for fixing the program part of the
game or the Math Box. Someone has yet to come up with a good step by step
procedure for quickly troubleshooting the VSM.
