Yep, that's it -- back away about 6 feet if you can.

Do the procedure w/ the monitor OFF.

Also, I've had a case or two where the monitor metal frame had become
magnetized. In this case, I 'degaussed' the sides of the frame, then
degaussed the CRT using the normal procedure.
