Not really a bad idea, it's a reverse polarity protector. In case of
+15 failure it would keep the +15 line on board from going more than a
diode drop negative and help to protect ICs and electrolytic capacitors
that connect to +15.

Either way they cross to an NTE109, so whatever you have, use it.
