Thinking about it a bit more, almost certainly VSM.. A mathbox failure would tend to affect the background objects, not the entire screen..

OK. Silicone worked. HV was at 20k after the transfromer was fixed -- ouch.
It probably needs an HV adjust pot since it still shimmies a bit and
adjusting was almost impossible, but we're not leaking. Now . ..

It's more obvious however that while the test pattern is perfectly centered,
the game image is being drawn off the left side of the tube (left looking at
it head on), while the right side is fine. I've put up pictures and a movie:

I'm stumped. I'm thinking something in the scaleing circuit, but I'm
grasping here. Take a look at how much it's drawing on the side of the tube
in the second to last picture.
