this was covered in an interview with the author,
if the copywrite is changed then random writes are made into the temp variable area.

just before release the copywrite message was altered and they forgot to recalculate the protection-check - OOPS! :)

as for mame sets, they are real - you want 119? use the mame one.

the 117 "bug" can be fixed with 217, you dont need to change the other rom.

3 rom changes i know of.

117-217 = "cheat" bug.
112-212 (i think) changes to spinner selftest.
??? (v3) changes to vector code to avoid monitor damage during 2player games.

havnt worked on these for years, but my memory of it is still good.
