Tempest test mode query

When putting a Tempest into test mode, what does a letter 'C' to the *left*
of the top line of DIP switch settings mean?

I can't find any reference to it in the manual and am certain it's nothing
to do with the ROMs/EPROMs (problems with these are indicated on the
topmost line of the display in test mode, starting from the top left).

If it's of any relevance the board has other problems besides this, namely
letters indicating comms problems with the math box board and sound (the
math box is fine (have swapped with a known good one), as are all
connections and the cable - the fault is, without a doubt, on the main
board (have also swapped this with a known good one which immediately
eliminates the fault).).

Thanks,
Phil
