Typical, no. Could it happen, you betcha!

Run the game WITHOUT the monitor and measure the X and Y outputs at the
monitor connector to ground. They should measure around 0 volts plus or
minus a volt and will change slightly as the picture would be changing.
If you get something like 5 volts, you definitely have a problem.
