Re: After 27 years, a new Asteroids high score record

For those who are fans of the game...

Microsoft recently released "Gameroom" - a "virtual arcade" (e.g., your
avatar can walk around a 3d space with cabinets that resemble the real ones
and as a bonus they give you an option to display with simulated tilted
screen and bezel).

Ok, I know... right... 1) it's not really vector at all and 2) you still
have to use the controller regardless of the game, etc. There are many valid
complaints.

However... there was one thing that stands out as useful. It has two modes.
One of the modes keeps track of your averages and lets you enter competition
with other people on set configurations, lives, time, etc. The other is
"classic mode," in which you can set dip switches... and... rewind... at any
time.

Rewind Asteroids at any time.

Maybe this is trivial and there must be a mame plug-in somewhere but with it
built into the Gameroom interface, it does offer a draw...

With the rewind feature, I could actually play this damned game. I was
scoring. I could see the maneuvers I needed to do where before I could only
see the destruction. I can see every mistake. I'm sure the high score guys
have been recording their plays for years but I bet most of them can't
rewind and play from the point of their last mistake within seconds.

Just my opinion but... I'm expecting a new wave of high scores to be set...
even if the practice is on the wrong display, the wrong controls, the wrong
body posture, and everything else. :)
