Thanks, Brian.  I did read that write up and, I agree, havings pics along with it would certainly help.  However, I profoundly appreciate your efforts.  I already got a very reasonable quote from Steph at hobbyroms and have already ordered a preprogrammed EPROM.  I definitely favor the approach of using a socket instead of cutting traces.  It seems that cutting the trace on a working Tempest board to be roughly akin to defacing the Mona Lisa (okay, maybe that's a stretch since there's only one Mona Lisa).  I just want to keep it as close to original as possible and the socket way seems to be the best approach. I was considering re-writing it up like one of my latest with pics etc (http://www.paladingrp.com/brianb/board_hacks/centipede/centipede-single-rom.html) which would make it much more easy to follow but wasn't sure there was any interest in it so never invested the time. hobbyroms is great for burning roms and I'd imagine they'd do it, but if not I'd be willing to burn you a ROM if you are not in a rush. (my eprom burner only works in XP and I don't have an XP machine around anymore as I just upgraded, haven't tried seeing if the burning works reliably via a virtual machine yet/USB passthrough) -brian On Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 10:57 AM, Robert Bayes <robertab_at_swbell.net> wrote: > That's actually a great idea but, I have no access to an EPROM programmer. > I really like the prospect of only dealing with one EPROM/socket for the > game program.  Plus, I might be able to add the Tempest Tubes hack.  I > wonder if I can buy a pre-programmed 512K EPROM.  Thanks, Matt. > > > > ________________________________ > From: Matt McCullar <mccullar_at_flash.net> > To: "vectorlist_at_vectorlist.org" <vectorlist_at_vectorlist.org> > Sent: Thu, July 12, 2012 12:29:45 PM > Subject: Re: VECTOR: Tempest > > You may want to try the single-EPROM upgrade that eliminates all the 2716s. > I've seen it done and it works.
