John,
        I have that same weakness. Just knowing do this and it will work is not good enough. I always want to know the how and why. I need to understand things, not just in electronics. I have driven my son nuts with it at times. He would just say the directions say do this and it will be fine. I always want to know more so if I have to go back to things, I will understand them.
