First , thanks to all who have responded thus far and potentially in the future. I certainly appreciate it.

Douglas, I'm certainly no Quantum expert so any suggestions are certainly helpful. I was not aware of the resistor errors. I followed the Tronic BOM and layout very closely and I didn't refer to much else at all except probably the Atari SP-221 schematic. I didn't go through it part by part comparing every single value, that is certain. Maybe I made a couple of mistakes but I was not aware of such so any help is certainly invaluable and I do appreciate it.

On Tronic's layout sheet, R48 is marked absent and R49 is marked as present 1.5k with a note "possible value change". Also, R76 is crossed out in red and so is R75 next to it. I have never once looked at the Tempest schematic to compare. Why, is the Tempest schematic inappropriate for this application?

I don't know what is "DP-190" and I have never looked at Jed M's site. I do have the pdf of the Quantum SP-221 so I can certainly go over that. Why would those parts be specified differently? Is it an issue that depends on whether you use an Amplifone or a wg6100? Obviously the pin-cushion requirements would be different.
Which would be the correct configuration if using an Amplifone? That's what is in my Q cab. I only tried it out on the wg6100 as a test.

It would be simple for me to change the R49 and R76 resistors as you suggest so I'll probably try that when I get a chance.

I do have a good scope but I have not used it on the board live in the cab as yet. I could check for CNTR at 7K-4 when I get time to work on the board again.

I had the whole family over for Easter supper today so I didn't get more than a few minutes to work with the machine today.

  I agree with Kevin about going through the self-test screens including the BIP adjustments. Seeing the other test screens would also help.

  Notice that the error is more pronounced in the Y (tall) axis, but looking closely it does seem present in X as well. Also note that single vectors seem fine (the long diagonal starburst patterns) but that many small vectors exaggerate the error, as if it's a cumulative problem.

  Unedited thoughts: Latches? Counters? Vector timer LS161s at 5L, 5M, 6M, 7M? CNTR flag going into pin 4 of LS32 at 7K?

  But how about the pincushion stuff? I noticed you have installed R49 when the schematic says it was not loaded, and omitted R76 when the schematic calls for a 1.2K resistor. Are you following the Tempest schematics instead? Note there are discrepancies between the published values in DP-190 vs. Jed Margolin's website vs. Quantum's SP-221 for the resistors around the MC1495s.

    Unfortunately, I was never able to fix the issue and put it aside. A friend has the board and hopefully he'll figure it out eventually. But it was definitely the board and not the monitor.

    That looks identical to the problems I was having with my Star Wars WG6100 monitor problem I was having. It ended up being those green X/Y block capacitors

    I finally decided to power up my repro Quantum machine for the first time this weekend. This is a Tronic PCB that I populated last year and this is its first attempt to run. The cab is from DPtwiz and it has the repro artwork and Takeman's repro metal parts and Joe's repro harness. The coin door, power brick, ARII, and Amplifone monitor are original equipment.

    First I plugged the Amplifone monitor into a known good Black Widow machine and discovered that the monitor has an minor issue that I have to take care of so I didn't use it to test the Quantum game board yet.

    The first attempt to run the board failed but the P1 LED was blinking. The manual said this was caused by failed SRAM at 5D, 5E, 6D, or 6E. I swapped out these four chips from my parts stock and tried again. This time, the P1 and P2 LEDs worked as per normal. I have the game set to free play so I pressed P1 and was greeted by a nice game sound. I pressed it again and got lots more sounds and it was obviously playing blind.

    Next, I plugged the Quantum video cable into my Major Havoc conversion wg6100 monitor and powered up again. This produced an image albeit quite broken up. I have not yet attempted to adjust the X and Y BIP, center, and size pots. I am not an expert on BIP and I have no idea if it can cause this sort of image breakup.

    The game was playable and stable although I had much difficulty because it's sideways. There were no resets and nothing unusual happened during a 30 minute run.
