Non game vector machine.

I have an old calculator that actually uses a small vector monitor to
display the results. Does anyone know the history of an item like
this. I'm not interested in selling it, I'd just like to know more
about it. It was made in japan, but only has the following markings:
ASI 500 on the front.

The serial number info is as follows:

Descal - Series TK 546 - Serial no. 9090205

BTW: It works, it takes a while for the monitor to adjust (anyone have a
cap kit for it ?<g>).
