At last I've tracked you all down I've tried to subscribe to this a
number of times now but I've been using a spies mirror and it seems to
give the wrong info.

Anyway to answer the questions

Chris,
The 8255 will be fine in place of an 82C55 as there isn't really a speed
issue.

Kev,
I'm currently working on an improved version of the I.C.E, it's more
along the lines of the Polar B2000 but not stand alone. It will get it's
instructions from a host via a serial port but will perform the tests
itself (i.e. you just issue a command string to it and it performs the
test and reports back if need be). The pcb is completed and most of the
code for the unit is finished (for the Z80 anyway). It's a single sided
pcb so it should be easy to replicate.
see http://science.ntu.ac.uk/admin/cmt/projects.htm for details.

As for getting the MK1 to support other CPU's it shouldn't be too hard
If you have the boards to test it on (I didn't my plea's for test boards
fell on deaf ears here in the UK).
