I have, and have had that same opinion for a long time.
While we're LV2000 bashing, a frequent failure in the LV
PS that I've seen is in the output power transistors (2N3716/2N3792.)
The LV2000, nor any other scheme can really get rid of these.
Just my $.02. And it's just my opinion on the whole thing....
