Repairing Audio Reg IIs

I've got a largish pile of dead, comatose and wounded AR2 boards and I'd
like to get at least two running (for a Space Duel and a Millipede)

I want to get a couple running and have some spares for later.

What are some common failure modes for AR2 boards besides a toasted sense
resistor?

Should I use a big resistor on the outputs of the 5v line or hook up a
Cinemat system board so I don't fry anything good?

I would like to add a crowbar diode to the 5v line so I never have to
worry about the linear going postal.

Where can I get one?

What type should I get (current rating, etc)?

Should I mount it on the gameboard, harness or on the AR2? I'm partial to
the harness since this doesn't deface the gameboard and you don't have to
consider the harness voltage drop. Comments?

Lastly, does anybody live in Denver? I won a contest and I'm flying out
to the Bonnie Raitt show at Red Rocks on the weekend of the 11th. I won't
have the tixs until Tuesday so I don't know how much free time I will
have but I'd love to meet another collector if I can fit it in.
