Potentially stupid Tempest question

Dear all,

I have a few Tempest boards that i'd like to test. Not having any spare colour xy monitors to use on my bench i'm wondering if i could hook it up to a monochrome xy monitor.

>From looking at the schematics a while back i noticed that there is an x output, y output , the three colours and a monochrome output *which is not used).

Basically my question is ......can i use the monochrome output to drive the Z input on my Asteroids monitor??
