Common problem that I have found with intermittent pods is the interconnect
plug/socket inside the unit. Open the shell, and separate the two circuit
boards, then spray the contacts with a good contact cleaner - MG Products
or similar (NOT WD-40!!!). Seat and re-seat the connection a couple of
times and try the self test again.

I have a bunch of 9000 pods that are suitable for parts $25US each... They
work, but who needs 'em as that processor is pretty useless as far as I
know. Lots of the buffer ICs though...
