Sockets on those old Atari boards are notoriously unreliable.
Even if you did find and fix the one pin on that one socket
that's causing you trouble, another one will crop up in a matter
of weeks. Don't bother testing the existing sockets, just
replace them. Machined-pin sockets are worth the extra money,
IMO.

My Battlezone constantly reported high-byte, low-byte, and
timeout errors. Re-seating chips fixed the problem, but they
always returned within a day or two. I replaced the 40-pin
sockets for the four 2901 processors, and the 14-pin sockets for
the seven (eight?) PROMs. They've been trouble-free ever since.

It's not as much work as it seems, and not having to return to
the location every other day to re-seat chips is SO worth it.
