Re: Converting Space Duel to Major Havok

Actually I have the parts to make a 6100 with extra HV & Deflections PCBs.
The HV units have been pretty easy to get working again, cept for one where
a nice section of the traces have burnt away. But the Deflection boards are
kicking my Butt!

I was getting close with Deflection #1 when my cheapo solder sucker fell
apart in my hand!!! I had background brightness but nothing else. I had just
finished replacint all 4 heatsink mounted transistors & the corresponding
pair of 3 above each side. (Q704 was shorted to the heatsink and Q603 was
shorted open). I was in the process of testing the surounding resistors &
diodes when the solder sucker failed. Went to RatShack yesterday & got
another solder sucker & a bulb type desoldering iron. All set now for when
the kid takes his nap & I have a couple hours of uninterupted hobby time.

On the Plus side, I have decided against converting the Space Duel & am
finishing the cabinet work on the Tempest. I will be ordering a Repro Roller
thanks to the heads up from Simon. I have already cleaned up the Marquee &
applied the NOS Marquee. Puttied the cabinet & sanded it several times. Next
will be painting it solid white. While thats drying, time to get out the
goof-off & clean up a control panel in preparation of the new roller & NOS
overlay.

So SD lives & so will MH!! or I will die trying!!!

Thanks to Simon and all who have offered their help!
Randy
