Yes.. perusing the Asteroid schematics I have, it seems easiest to provide
the 36VAC.. yes, it's center tapped 18/18 with the center tap grounded. This
is converted on-board to DC +5,+8.2,+12,+15,-8.2 and -15 as well as +22VDC
unregulated, tho the last is just for the audio amps. Then you need a
seperate +5VDC regulated supply which is what the AR board usually provides.
I have no idea why Atari did it this way.
