Tempest mathbox? problems

OK, here is an interesting problem. I just pulled one of our
twenty-four year in storage Tempests out, powered it up, found out it
NEEDED a LV2000 kit (great kit! -
http://www.geocities.com/jeffhendrix67/lv2000/), now it powers up and
plays.

Sort of.

What I get is an almost normal attract game screen (same as what
follows), when I start the game everything looks great. The spikes
come up with the sparkler, they shoot fireballs at me, and the blue
thingys are flying up as well. The problem is the blue thingys VANISH
about an inch before they meet the top edge of the pattern. They are
still there, of course, as my character dies when they meet...

So, I figure this is a job for Mr. Signature Analyzer, but was hoping
that someone might have seen this before and can say "Change X IC".

I'm just lazy!
