i think that's pretty much it, put the tube in a vac chamber,
cut the guns off and weld a new one on.

once you lose vac the inside get's contaminated and the phosphorus comes off the front of the tube, so i suspect it would be pretty stuffed at that point.

the glass is high-value btw.
there used to be a company that purchased broken tubes from tv repair shops to recycle the glass.
