RE: Replacing a WG6100 picture tube?

Sigh. A little more googling on 19VLUP22 and I came across this from this very mailing list [march, 2007 I think]:

> I thought this would be of interest to the group. This is from Richardson Electronics: "RCA discontinued building the 19VLUP22 over 15 years ago.
> Since then only rebuilds have been available. As glass has continued to become scarce, the rebuilders are now requiring a good dud in
> order to supply you with a finished rebuilt tube. The original 19VLUP22 was a 100 degree deflection bulb.>
> This allowed the Electrohome G08 to be a lower profile unit. Therefore a 100 degree bulb solution is required for your chassis.
> (Otherwise your yoke won't set-up) 100 degree bulbs are very scarce to come by."

I guess I'll have to call Richardson tomorrow and find out what the story is and why, if the part is truly not available, they continue to list it on their web store.

Pat,
Add me to the list of people with a K6100 with a broken tube. The actual tube is a 19VLUP22 which apparently you might be able to get from Richardson Electronics. The have the part listed as "On Order" and they'll happily take your $165. I've ordered one but we'll see if it actually turns up. Of course you then have to refit your yoke and do all the conversion again - something I have never tried and seems pretty tricky. Perhaps other folk on this list might have some conversion/purity tips. The Richardson link is:

One other thing, someone on this list also recommended Hawkeye Picture Tubes [http://www.hawkeyepicturetube.com/index.html] as a possible option for repairing a busted tube but the kind gentleman on the phone there said that if the vacuum has been compromised then it's probably not worth and/or not possible to save the tube. His test was to look for black spots on the front of the tube where the phosphors have been damaged. There were a few tiny pinprick sized spots on mine which was bad news apparently. [There were off-center where you'd normally find a phosphor burn by over doing the SCREEN control]. He was also going to see if he could locate a 19VLUP22 tube for me but I haven't heard from him in about a week.

Not much help I'm afraid other than to say that there's others in the same predicament....

--I have 4 6100's with busted necks or missing tubes and 3 G08's with busted
necks. It is truly a sad site. 2 of the g08's I am responsible for due to
poor storage. I sure could use some tubes as much as the next guy but can't
afford to spend a mint replacing them.. I know there are some tubes in
televison sets that are the 100 degree type and are compatible with the
6100. A google search did not turn up anything. Does anyone here know of a
specific type of 19" television that I could rob the tube from to fix these
sad cases?
