Yes you could. You can as well on single color crt's like the ones used in rgb projectors for example. But there are still new b&w replacement crts to be found... Even on ebay right now.

I understand that you can not recoat phosphor on a color crt due to the
shawow mask but I was under the impression you could have this done on a B&W
tube. Has your experience been different?
