To get back on target, I think the proper answer to the future of a new
ZVG would be to come up with modern hardware and software. The current
solution is designed around a dead platform from both sides.

My opinion is, if you have existing hardware, there are ways to make it
work. The board has obsolete parts on it so it's future isn't in
recreating it as-is, but in starting over.
