Hmmm...I did have a Black Widow board that did this once. It turned out to be one of the ROM sockets. One pin coming off of one ROM socket just wasn't making contact with the board (even though the ROM was plugged into the socket just fine).
Replaced the socket and that did the trick. I suspected the socket because I had recently removed the ROM from this exact socket to test it in another board, but I guess that action pulled up the socket just enough or otherwise messed it up at this one contact point...

on the gamma side I can check 108 just fine. If the gamma processor isn't communicating, I would think I would still have video showing me that the gamma isn't communicating..
