Well, I was just looking at the 6400 schematics that I have and it
certainly looks like the LV2000 could work for it too with modifications
for R3 and R4 to bring it up to the required 47V (adjustable range +/-
10V?) regulated voltages. The LM317 can't handle more than 37V
difference between input/output so someone would have to do the
calculations. Back diodes on the capacitors and 317 would help protect
it during powerdown.

Of course now the LV2000 is all surface mount, not like the old kits so
might be a bit harder. Or do they still sell kits?

The original question was about using the "X" version of the
transistors, certainly on the higher voltage 6400 one does need to match
better, and probably add a clamp circuit to the inputs similar to used
on some of the GO8s to prevent overswing inputs...
