i used to work on these,
if it's a sitdown then you need to check the fuseblock.
there is a fuse in it rated at 25-30amps.
the fuse blows at 30amps, but the holder and spade-terminals go at a much lower current!!!

you want to kill the feedback circuit on the ar2's aswell, the info is probably in some asteroids faq someplace.
that will stop you burning the edge-connector.
if it's burned already then replace it.

btw, most of this info other than the fuseholder is generic to all old atari stuff,
it took the idiots around 5 years to learn about these design problems!!!

one other thing i'v seen on pole' if the throttle has a deadspot and then throttles off like a wheelspin or you cant reach full-speed then replace the throttle pot.
it can develope a deadspot at one end of it's travel.
make sure you use one with a metal shaft - preferably a cermet type otherwise it wont last a week.
