I usually run mine around ~15KV. Only reason is that it just *sounds*
(literally) like it's less stressful. Pretty un-scientific, but seems
reasonable.

Seems to me that lower voltages would just have to be easier on the part
and run a little cooler. Probably a little bit less likely to start
internal arcing too...

In one of my geekier moments I was actually thinking of stealing a
couple of addresses from the Star Wars memory map and hanging a couple
of those Dallas digital thermometer chips in the HV cage and on the
chassis by the deflection transistors. Write a little "boot code" that
shows the temperature of the monitor on screen when in test mode. ;-)

(Come to think of it, Maxim or someplace has those nifty
fanspeed/voltage monitor/temperature monitor chips for use on ATX
motherboards. That'd be a neat set of statistics for a game board to be
able to show. Hmmmm. Maxim factory guys are going to be here
Tuesday... Time for some samples. ;-)
