I use the full "blown" version and... sorry, no direct 74XX support.
(But you do get the books!)
However, you don't really need 74XX. If you're going to use real 74XX logic
you still have to select a gate type and translate it to a part number.
Synario just cuts out the middle man and lets you select the gate you want.

Well as I am not sure what "gate type" means it is probably why I am having
trouble with Synario.  You mean and, or, etc?  So how do I select an and
gate in Synario?

BTW, with all that I/O, why have only 3 mode select bits? (or are they I2C
:-)

3 Mode bits because I couldn't see needing to map more than 8 games in 1
implementation.
 
 
Anyone know if the outputs on that Atmel part can be configured tri-state? 
I will probably order the intro kit and see what I can do with it.  Are
there diode packs like there are resistor packs?  I have never needed them
so never thought to look.
