TIS98 and TPS98 transistor questions

Afraid it's head-scratching time again.

A few days ago I replaced all the TIS98 transistors on my G05-801's
deflection board with what I thought was the nearest equivalent, 2SC2240
(only one transistor was faulty but I replaced them all to ensure a perfect
'match' with each other).

This cropped up in a conversation with someone else and he said he didn't
think 2CS2240 was a suitable/close enough replacement for TIS98.

I've looked at the data sheets for these and yes, they *are* different,
however my relatively small amount of electronics knowledge precludes me
from determining the 'important' differences.

Now, the monitor works okay, but I am now left wondering whether these
(possibly wrong) replacements may cause other problems, either now or in
the future.

I am also wondering whether they may be the cause of my slightly jagged
diagonal lines, 'hidden' stationary vertical lines that moving objects
'ripple' over, etc.

Andy Welburn kindly pointed out a few days ago that 2N4401 was a good
replacement for TPS98, but is 2N4401 *also* a good replacement for TIS98 on
my G05-801 deflection board?

Why was TPS98 used instead of TIS98 on, presumably, later boards? Maybe it
was only in later revisions of the G05?

Please note: I'm in the UK so can't so easily get hold of the NTE
replacements, so I'm looking for parts I can easily obtain in the UK. I
have some 2N4401's already, plus I have read that 2N3904 is a good
substitute for TIS98 (is it?) - I can obtain the latter from Farnell in the
UK if necessary.

Thanks,
Phil
