        White glows in the tube neck are generally bad. :) Normally, the
filament should only glow a reddish-orange. Either your filament voltage
is cranked up way too high, or something is arcing inside the tube.

        With the deflection power-transistors unplugged, some of the other
transistors in the deflection-amp section aren't going to be too happy
either...

        The answer to that question depends a great deal on just _which_
