Manual is probably wrong, bulb probably said "5A" on it and someone
thought that meant 5 amp.

On other monitors NE-2 and NE-2H bulbs were used.

A Google search came up with
http://www.debcoelectronics.com/catpages/productL3119.html which
suggests a 5A is also known as an NE-83. These used to be used in lamp
dimmers before they switched over to using DIACs for triggering. They
are pretty much the same as an NE-2H with the addition of a trace of a
radioactive material so firing characteristics don't change when used in
the dark (a regular neon bulb requires more voltage to fire if in the
dark than when there's light available).

At 10 for $1 these appear to be a bargain, now all you need is enough
other stuff to pad the order (this is where the fun begins)....
