B/W Atai Vector transformer stuff...

Hello,

I was running into a rather unusual problem and thought I'd put it here
to see if anyone saw this before. I have an Asteroids Deluxe CT that was
blowing F2. First time it happened, (about a year ago) I rebuilt the audio reg,
and replaced my big blue cap on the transformer assembly. Machine was fine
for about 5 months, under average use of about 2 hrs per week.
5 months ago, F2 blows again. I start checking everything from the audio
reg again, and check all voltage regulators on the mian board. I can't find
anything, but still replace the 5v components of the AR, replace F2. Machine
runs again until last night.
F2 blown, no +5 again. Transformer is very warm. I remove transformer
assembly. All connectors to big blue are nice, big blue still tests fine with
ESR. I'm thinking the CR1 and CR2 might be bad on the rectifier board. Sure
enough CR1 is testing poor, CR2 is pretty crappy as well. I also decide to
see where all this voltage (10.3vdc) goes besides where I was already servicing
things after I replace the rectifier diodes.
Coin Lockout Coils??!!!! Never thought of this, though I do remember a
friend saying the panel of the coin door felt very warm when he was putting
coins in a long while ago. I check the coils, they are crispy, and loook like
doo doo. I'd have never thought of even looking there, but I'm guessing that
the cooking coils may have been a real problem. I think I'm going to leave
them disconnected on my machines from now on, no need for them anyway, and they
damn near cost me a transformer assembly (I'd have had a real fun time
getting one to replace it!)
    Anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks,
Michael Kelley
